Film Score Monthly has at last announced their long-awaited release of the original film tracks from Time After Time! The previous LP and CD release of was an excellent re-recording with the Royal Philharmonic, but the original film recording had a larger orchestra and will have much better sound. I am absolutely floored with the new El Cid. In addition to the spirited performance, which completely blows away James Sedares' lackluster take on it for Koch, I really like how the sonics bridge a more modern "spacious" presence with the drier sound common to film score recordings of the sixties, and Miklós Rózsa's scores in particular. What an insanely busy weekend! One of the main highlights was the obnoxious amount of Jenga that was being played. It was most interesting at Nate's picnic in Central Park yesterday, where we employed the Jenga mp3 CD (note that the entry is out of date; the current version of the disc is 6.1 and has 250 tracks). The Film Society of Lincoln Center has an amazing set of screenings set for August and September, including a screening of El Cid on September 1, just in time for the release of the Tadlow recording of Miklós Rózsa's score!
